Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Match Analysis

SCG will once again host the BBL match for their team Sydney Sixers and this time it will be against the Adelaide Strikers in the 16th fixture of the tournament. The defending champions Sydney Sixers are in good form after three wins off their last four games. Their star opening batter Josh Philippie is in red hot form as he finished the last game against the Melbourne Stars single handedly scoring an unbeaten 99* off 61 balls. The Strikers on the other hand will be looking to make a strong return into the league with a commanding performance as they were once again torn apart in their game against the Scorchers. BBL is a highly competitive league and it is almost impossible to write off any team in the competition. Although Sixers look a much more solid squad, Strikers also possess enough talent to raise questions against the settled Sixers attack. What makes BBL different from other competitions all around the world is the passion and commitment that the players showcase during matches and we rarely see one sided results here. The Sixers are currently sitting top on the points table comfortably and the Strikers would be looking to jump up the ladder from the fifth spot in the table. It is almost certain that one strong battle awaits all of us at the SCG on Tuesday.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Pitch Report

History suggests that Sydney is a much better batting track in contrast to many other top grounds in Australia. In BBL 2021, Sydney have hosted two matches so far and we saw the teams batting first score above 200 in both the matches. This proves that the teams batting first have a great chance of making use of the batting friendly conditions offered from the ground. Another interesting facet is that on both these occasions teams batted first and won the match comfortably.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Team Previews

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers started the competition with an authoritative  display of power hitting and quality bowling against the Melbourne Stars where they registered the highest ever win in a BBL match. And they continued to showcase their quality right through the competition and as a result of that, they are currently at the top of the table with three wins from four matches. The Scorchers are right behind the Sixers having yet to lose a match in this year’s competition. A defeat here for the Sixers would mean that they will be pushed to the second spot with Scorchers claiming the top spot. The only match that the Sixers lost was against the Hurricanes where they looked out of sorts both with bat and ball. They have played their A game in all the remaining three games and Josh Philippe has been extraordinary for them at the top of the order. He is a consistent performer of the Sixers and the opening stand with James Vince in the opening match and crucial partnerships with captain Moises Henriques along with the finishing abilities that he showcased in the last match makes him an asset for any side.  Sixers have faced Hurricanes and Stars twice in this year’s competition and this will be the first time they will be playing another side other than these two. The one good thing for Sixers is the fact that they have not been over reliant on any particular player and there have been key performers both in the batting and bowling departments which made them work as a complete team. In their last encounter against Melbourne Stars, it was Josh Philippe who once again stood tall between Stars and their win as he thumped one off to the boundary of the last over off the match to bring victory to his side. The batting depth of Sixers is commendable and is strong as someone like Jordan batting at eight speaks volume of the talent that they possess right throughout the lineup. One huge body blow for them is the absence of certain key players who are ruled out of the tournament. Players like Tom Curran and Steve O’Keefe were sure starters and both will be unavailable for the rest of the tournament. Even after losing so many players the Sixers look like a team to beat, such is the talent that they boast on their bench.

Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide Strikers were one among the best sides of the tournament and last year also they have been very consistent with their performances. But, they have failed to live to everyone’s expectations this year. They have been out of sorts in both departments and losing their star performers like Travis Head and Alex Carey have affected them drastically and it is so evident in their recent results. They are completely out of focus and they need a push from some experienced figures in their squad to make a difference to what they are right now and what exactly they should be. They are in the fifth position of the table right now and if they continue to play ordinary cricket, it would be very difficult for them to get back on track. The first two fixtures for the blues were against Renegades and they lost their first match marginally and came back strong in their second match. But, they were completely thumped to the ground by the Scorchers in their last fixture and it would be difficult for them to come back and put up a fight against a quality side like the Sydney Sixers. Matt Short was the only one who batted out and scored some runs for the Strikers in their last match. He was handy with the ball as well with support from Daniel Worral who both were economical in the Scorchers showdown. What made the game worse for the Strikers is the fact that experienced bowlers like Peter Siddle, Rashid Khan and Wes Agar went for over 100 runs in the nine overs they have bowled. The Scorchers made batting look easy on that track as Munro thumped down each and every Strikers bowler down the ground with ease. The Strikers were unable to replicate what Munro did and some brilliant bowling from the Scorchers led by Tye and Behrendorff saw them finish the match at 146 chasing a target of 195. Strikers can still come back strong and reclaim their reign in the tournament if they believe in themselves and try to improve their game. What they possibly lack is some experienced batters who they can bank on to take them across the line. Having someone like Rashid Khan is an added advantage as he is a world class spinner who can turn matches upon its head and bring success to their side. They need to play out of their skins if they have any chance of coming on top against the Sixers.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Toss Prediction

Sydney is one of the best venues in Australia where we can bat with confidence from the beginning of the innings. It is a high scoring ground and this year also we saw that the teams batting first have won both the matches by posting totals above 200. Setting up a target can be risky but if they manage to do so, it would be worth it. So, both teams would certainly prefer to bat first here.

Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers How to Bet

We are going to back Sixers to win this match. The Sixers would like to remain at the top of the table and continue their winning momentum. The Strikers on the other hand would be looking to bounce back after their defeat against the Perth Scorchers. The Strikers lack a lot of experience in the middle order and their bowling looks out of sorts. The only way for them to get better if Sixers is to bowl brilliantly. Quality bowling performance is the only thing that can help the Strikers to put up a fight against the Sixers or else it would be a one sided contest where the Sixers could once again continue their supremacy at the top. Bet on the Sixers to win.
